I was just listening to it.. now im listening to 'start me up'.. i love Rolling stone, and for the looser that Rolling stone is the most over rated band, then you havent hear many songs buddy!

However it isn't about the Viet Nam war. You're putting the cart before the horse. Just because a great many people have used it as a sound track to movies and TV shows doesn't make it about the war. It was released in 1966, at a time when American casualties hadn't reached 10,000 yet, and the war wasn't on everyone's minds. While it isn't out of the realm of possibility, enough of the lyrics are clearly a man singing about a dead girlfriend to make me sure.

I have to disagree with all these people saying it's about the Vietnam War. It's supposedly about a man mourning his dead girlfriend, though it could also be seen as a song about depression.



The song which *is* about the Vietnam War is one of my other favourites, 'Gimme Shelter'.
