This is what i have so far.
2) Characters - The characters in this cartoon are the SCHIP Children and the Elephants which represents the Republican Party, which also represnts President George Bush in my oppinion.
3) Symbols - There are four symbols in this cartoon. The first symbol is the "SCHIP" children, who are standing in a line to spell out SCHIP,then next to that there is a bunch of flowers that spell out "expansion" which if you put it together says "SCHIP Expansion." The seconed symbol is the sword that says "Veto" that is pointing at the children meaning President bush vetoed the plan. The third symbol is the sign that says "NO Socialized Medicine" That also means that if you get health insurence from the goverment then you can't go there, they don't allow it. the fou
Help me please!! Its with a political cartoon!!!?
Here is the meaning.
Republicans are against socialized medicine. They are blinded to the fact that SCHIP is to improve the health of America's less fortunate children.
Because of this "blindness" they see these children as "gorgons" instead of the benign children that they are.
(In ancient mythology looking at gorgons {Medusa} would turn you to stone.)
In short they overreacted to this bill by supporting GWB's veto.
Hopefully, they will all pay the price in the 2008 elections.
Reply:You have done very well. Sometimes one has to be familiar with the cartoonist to be real clear where they are coming from. The idea is that if the hero (DUH-bya) with the veto looks at the big-eyed children he'll fall prey to their charms and be overcome. Once he vetoes SCHIP it will eventually be shown to be merely another attempt to expand the various government sponsored health programs. This is indicated by the Gorgon/Medusa head on a pike in the background labeled "No Socialized Medicine". It is, presumably a trophy of their successful battle to defeat the national health care plan during the Clinton administration.
Good luck.
Reply:they're talking about how all those things are attacking ordinary citizens
Reply:??? no idea?? gd ?? i will mabe ask some one?
Reply:Do your own homework. it is not all that hard!!!!!
Reply:But look at the weaponry, the head on the stick. Its all very dated, symbolizing they're outdated reasons for still holding off socialized medicine. Not just that, but they are absolutely cowering before the obviously innocent and benign children who are representing the health care program - itself innocent and benign.
Also, it doesn't need to be IYHO that Bush is GOP - thats a fact. Hes a republican. No one will dispute you on that.
Reply:The Above post by Adam is correct. However, more to the point. The cartoon is illustrating the rigidity of the GOP to any bills that garner even a hint of universal health care. (Even if this is not entirely the case). Simply, the dumb looking elephants scared of these innocent children as "Emphasized" in an exaggerated manner insinuate that the SCHIP bill was harmless and that the GOP reacted inappropriately by vetoing. It was a kind of "gezz pick you battles GOP" I mean really who takes away funding for sick kids. Bad PR move. That's what I got from it.
Reply:i think what you have is really good =) stick to that and it's fine!
Reply:I don't know what it means but it should be showing that there are no kids that stay kids until they are 25 like this bill would define.
As if the entitlement programs aren't enough out of control.
Reply:srry can't help
Reply:OMG
Reply:calm down. just come up with silly govermental problems, and maybe some serious ones, and turn the charcters into funny little cartoon forms. it'll work out fine.
Reply:What you've already written is plenty.
Reply:Recently, the President vetoed a bill that would have provided health care to poor children (SCHIP stands for state child health insurance program or something like that). Killing that bill is denying children health care and is much like actually stabbing them with a sword, according to the author. That is why the elephant can't look at what he is about to do.
It says no socialized medicine because that is the ideal that the elephant/GOP are backing by denying the bill.
Reply:I noticed that Richie Rich isn't among the children as he should be.
Reply:grass is greener on the other side!
