I am currently planning my wedding! Yea! My fiance and I want to have a unique wedding. We don't want a typical cookie-cutter wedding. Details so far:
Colors: hot pink and orange (my favorite and his)
Place: Church (not unique)
Reception: Cheesecake and coffee (wedding cake, nuts, and mints)
Music: I am going to sing to him at some point in time during the wedding. (From this moment)
NO piano or organ...uck.
Wedding march will be played by two ladies with bells.
Time: August-6:30pm
TONS of candles, and no overhead lights. (church has lights that line the walls about 20ft above the floor and point toward the ceiling.)
I don't want many flowers. (to overdone.)
Any suggestions as to how I can do unique decorations and/or non-traditional ideas to incorporate into our special day?
I was thinking about using a ton of balloons, but my fiance isn't sure about that idea.
How do I make my wedding super unique?
I agree that 'unique' doesn't have to mean a whole bunch of different themes... After all, it is still a wedding. Not a birthday party.
Doing things just because you want your guests to say 'that was unique' isn't really what I would want to look back on in 30 years. It's just like all of those bad bridesmaid dresses... they really looked nice at the time...
I think that making the ceremony and reception reflect the bride and groom's likes and favorites is a much better idea then just doing everything opposite of how weddings are supposed to be. If you want something unique, I would go to a wedding or event planner and ask what some ideas would be... or just have them plan something one of a kind.
Just do something that you two will enjoy. After all, it's your day. Years down the road, after all of the money is spent and gone, you two will be the only ones remembering it anyway!
I like the bell idea!
Congrats!
Reply:I think you need flowers but dont go with roses go with something really differnt. ice lights really cool. write your own vows that does not happen to offen. balloons are ok but they do look a little cheap and kidish.
Reply:Balloons CAN look tacky, or they can also look great depending on how you use them, and how many of them you use. I had clear balloons that contained blue heart shaped balloons inside them, they were really kitsch looking rather than tacky, and as our wedding was very informal and relaxed they fitted in very well (plus we were on a very tight budget and they were cheaper than flowers) I like the idea of floating candles, or lanterns.
Reply:you don't say what time of year you are planning for, but think outside the box... garden arches are about 20.00 each and look gorgeous covered in tulle and white lights... also are re-usable in your yard, or someone else's... have the wedding at your home, or your uncle's farm, or ??? a beautiful park, beach, or garden may accomodate you... think about being married on a Sunday morning, and having a brunch reception.. give bubbles for favors, kites, or release butterflies... balloons hurt birds and wildllife so probly not those... is there an arboretum? a museum? or a mansion nearby...??? just some things to think about.
Reply:Hi.
I totally agree with pspoptart and starbux. There is nothing unique in weddings anymore. This question gets asked lots ...."how to be unique." But if the answer is given, then it's what someone saw or did at another wedding...so, in fact, it is not unique.
I, do, however, like what you have chosen. I'm not one for the Wedding March, though....is that "Here Comes the Bride"? I have NEVER heard that played in all the weddings I have been to. If it is unique for you...then go with it. If it's done lots where you live, then it isn't unique. Personally, I think you can think of something better than Here Comes The Bride. The bells would be nice with so many other selections.
Decorations: Since it's in August, why not simple vases with orange and pink gerbera daisies. I love those flowers! They are so bright. You could do 2 (1 of each color) in a simple vase. OR...a pink and orange rose in each vase with some scattered rose petals.
Don't do balloons! That's my opinion. Leave the balloons for a kids birthday party or the prom....not a wedding. Just do some nice table centerpieces and go with that.
Good luck!
Reply:Sorry to say but I don't think anything is "unique" in weddings anymore. Just search the older questions here, there's everything from goth wedding to cinderella theme weddings (and everything in between), and I'm not just talking themes.
Personally, my wedding is going to reflect us and knowing that our relationship is the most important thing I couldn't care if I get married on a cardboard box in the middle of the ocean. Focus on the important things.
Reply:What about your dress? Retailers now offer rock n roll wedding styles or dress with splashes of color or all over designs.
Or have a crazy first dance
(doesn't look crazy until about 2 mins thru it. Wait it out or skip to it.)

Reply:I think balloons at weddings look cheap....others say they are great.
Don't worry so much about how "super unique" it is or isn't when you choose something. The truth is weddings have been happening for centuries so there is no such thing as a "unique" idea left in this world. If you like it....use it. No one bride is going to have the same choices as you and no other bride has the same groom as you so it's going to be unique no matter what. When you look back on your wedding you want to say "that is so us!"....not "what were we thinking?" or have guests wonder if they got the address wrong when they walk in.
Reply:If you are going to sing "From this Moment" to him you have totally ruined your chances for a unique wedding as that song is played at every wedding and/or reception that I've ever been to!

Reply:i would go with flowers only because it sounds like you want to do a lot of different things. you dont want to get lost is an array of different themes. Maybe do tall calla lillies as table centerpieces and you can get them in orange and pink most florist can paint them the exact colors youd like.
