Who were William Apes and William Gilmore Sims?

10) What is the significance of the story title, “The Two Camps”? What are the two camps? What do you make of the last lines “warn’t she a beauty … the very flower of the forest”? What comparisons might be made between this story and the narratives of Rowlandson and Smith?

11) In what ways is the “forest” a connecting element in these narratives? What is the significance of the “forest” or frontier in American history?

Who were William Apes and William Gilmore Sims?
William Apes was a minister who preached to Indian tribes and supported them against the government re the whites unfair treatment of Indians

William Gilmore Sims is a writer from the South who is considered the only significant writer in their day to come from the South other than Edgar Allen Poe

The forrest or frontier is significant because of the concept of America's manifest destiny, to push outward into the frontier until America could lay claim to the entire mainland north of the Rio Grande and soouth of canada
