How to decorate donuts?

i work as a baker at one of the donut shops, and i would like to learn how to decorate a round shaped donut, or even a long john... but there's only one problem i dont have any decorating tools, i can only use the tip of a knife to decorate with...

can u imagine what i mean?

i mean i have to dip the knife in the fundant, then let it drip onto the surface of that donut carefully...

but what i really want to know from u guys/girls... what would u sometimes like to see decorated on a donut, or what do u think it would make it look fancy...??

ive tried flowers, stars, lines, zigzags, spirals, and smilies... but i want more ideas... use ur imagination and tell me... and if u can show me a picture of what u r thinking of... plz post it...

and tell me what wouldnt be a good idea to decorate it with?

Do nuts?
Reply:on regular days poll your customers to see what they might like. put a fish bowl, or a wrapped box, with a slot on top, on the counter with a sign, "contest".. one dozen free dough nuts to the person who i use their idea. have it explain what you're looking for. shapes, cartoons, etc. also make a limit of how many will win. decide how many designs you're looking for. a new one daily, etc..

for thanksgiving use, pumpkins, cornucopia, turkey.

christmas use, gifts, trees, ornaments, santa, reindeer, snowman.

new years use, fireworks, father time / baby, confetti, party horns, clocks.

valentine's day use, hearts, kisses.

st pat's day use, four leaf clover, leprechaun's, pots of gold.

easter use, colored eggs, bunnies, baskets. and so on for all the holidays....

happy decorating to you.
Reply:get some frosting, and spread it over the donut.
