What was that that the Scottish Rugby team were singing today?

Rugby Union. Scroteland -v- France.

When the players line out - today Scotland are playing France - players sing the national anthem. The British national anthem is God Save Our Queen. It is the anthem of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

So why are these people from Scroteland singing about flowers?

I am not mad about the French but I hope they win

What was that that the Scottish Rugby team were singing today?
HERE WE GO AGAIN. Thought rugby supporters were beyond all that cr***p. As an English person living in Scotland it really gets up my nose - from both sides that is. The Queen's part Scots anyway and a Scottish King took over the British throne about 2 million years ago so what's the problem. We're all a mishmash of nationalities anyway.

Seems to me the sooner Scotland becomes independent the better - at least (as an English person in Scotland) I won't get the blame for every bad thing that happens here!
Reply:God Save the Queen was the English national anthem before England formed the UK. Thats why its also the British national anthem Report It
Reply:Why not. Why do you care?

It's a nice Anthem %26amp; we like it. It's a good tune and funny lyrics.

If you're happy singing your German march with a few silly English words added on top crack on with it. But don't start having a pop at other nations just because you got stuffed by Wales the day before. Wales have got a proper anthem even better than Flower of Scotland.

Sorry, but the Irish one is a joke. Singing that shite at Croke park is a sin.
Reply:Och get a life you ***hole. I would not sing "God Save The Queen" if i was paid. Flower of Scotland all the way. You are soooo ignorant it is unbelievable.

Scotland to win today!!
Reply:I'm a "Scrote" but I can appreciate your sassonach irony.

By the way, Princess Anne looked like she was suffering from constipation. Do you think that's because there were no Engerlanders there to sing about a non-existant deity protecting her mother? ;-)
Reply:Where the hell have you been?????????

All the Home countries have their own National Anthem, except for England, who do not have their own so they sing the UK one!

DUH!
Reply:Kia Ora Bro, yeah we get the same thing in Aotearoa bro. The honkies want us to sing God defend New Zealand, When everyone knows the maori anthem is Ten Guitars.
Reply:yet again we have a ref with french ties that was no try oh and by the way flower of scotland you ignoranus!!when are we going to get a fair and just system for selection of the refs ???? that was diabolical totally biased c'mon the scots look forward to playing you sat...........
Reply:Could i just point out that your lot sing "swing low sweet chariot"at rugby internationals which is an Afro- American ***** spiritual song, could you possibly explain the significance of this . Anyway ,the national anthem that you are gibbering on about is an English anthem no matter which way you tart it up ,in a later verse it goes on about sending armies up to crush us,so for us to give it the time of day is like turkeys voting for Christmas .The flower of Scotland song that you so graciously refer to is a folk song by The Corries that has been adopted by our country as a National Anthem, and we like to think it also sets us apart from muppets like you.
Reply:because were awesome,

TECHNOPHOBE,,god save the queen is dull and boring.
Reply:God Save the Queen most certainly is NOT the anthem of Wales...that's "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau."

Truetell...Yes! it was Welsh...the language of Wales...DUH!!!

You English expect everyone to speak your language and now you expect everyone to use your anthem....I've got news for you pal...'t ain't gonna happen...Here in Wales, Scotland or Ireland.
Reply:Cynychu bant!
Reply:Because we are Scottish!
Reply:Flower of Scotland. The adopted Scottish National anthem by the Rugby and the Football team. The French are 3-0 down at the moment :-p
Reply:Scotland sings "Flower of Scotland", which is a strongly nationalistic song celebrating the victory of Scotland over the English King Edward; hence the evocative words " .. and sent Edward's armies home again to think again".

It has nothing to do with flowers - only the ignorant English think that because they do not listen to the words.

"God save the Queen" is sung ONLY when England is playing, because England does not have its own anthem.
Reply:to be honest it is really only the English national anthem

you don't criticize Wales for Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.

I reckon everyone should have there on national anthem. Otherwise if it was Scotland vs England they would sing the same National Anthem
Reply:God Save the Queen is the British/UK Anthem.

England use it as there anthem but all the other countries have there own. And quite right so. We are one whole Kingdom but each nation still has the right to be patriotic and proud about there own country.
Reply:yea exactly %26amp; what were the welsh singing about in another language?
