Tramp Stamp - What makes a tramp stamp?

Everyone knows what a tramp stamp is, but just in case someone doesn't, it's a tattoo on the lower back of a woman. The most common tattoos of this sort tend to be butterflies, flowers, hearts or stars from what I've heard. Now, I think tramp stamp is a terrible phrase. I want to get what is called a "tramp stamp" sort of, but I want it to be off center, stretching from my hip bone to the middle of my back (right to the line of where my spine ends). It is going to be a tat of a little boy lying in a field of flowers with a fox (from Exupery's "The Little Prince", a wonderful book.) Considering location AND subject matter, do you consider this a tramp stamp? I'm definitely going to get it reguardless of what anyone thinks, but I am curious as to what one considers a tramp stamp. Please refrain from simple tattoo hate, it doesn't help me or anyone else to know that you think any and all tattoos are stupid and/or ugly.

Tramp Stamp - What makes a tramp stamp?
Le Petit Prince is one of my favourite books. I'm thinking of getting a tattoo of the prince himself but I'm waiting a few years to be sure. Love the idea though : )

A 'tramp stamp' is a lower back tattoo. I hate that phrase though... I like to think that it's the person wearing the tattoo is what classifies it as a tramp stamp or not. Some tattoos looks good there and I personally would consider getting one there if I could design something I liked enough. What people SHOULD be referring to as a tramp stamp is not a lower back tattoo in general, but one that girls get simply to make themselves more attractive, or to be cool. THAT is what defines a 'tramp stamp' to me.
Reply:i wouldn't consider it a tramp stamp unless it's on your lower -middle- back. and considering the subject matter, that would make it less of a trampstamp. i would also definitely consider tribals to be a major part of tramp stampage...

edit- i have seen a tramp stamp i like to. i know it has a bad connotation, but i don't think the location automatically makes the tattoo unattractive.
Reply:doesn't sound like one to me. traditionally tramp stamps are located on the lower back right about the butt crack, and in general are meant to be "alluring." Yours sounds like a fantastic, well thought out personal piece with nice asymmetric placement. Rock it!
Reply:i think if you want a tattoo there then get it there and don't listen to what everyone else says I have a tramp stamp and I love it i don't care what people what to call but yes if u get any tattoo on or around ur lower back people will say u have a tramp stamp
Reply:A tramp stamp is below the waistline with just part of it sticking up to catch a guy's attention. Not all lower back tattoos are considered tramp stamps.
Reply:Yeah, a tramp stamp is defined by the location of the tattoo, not what it is.
Reply:they jus call it a tramp stamp because they cant afford one :)
